5. Body decline associated with aging
As we age, a range of body functions decline.
Particularly marked is the decline in balance function; if those in their twenties are treated as having 100% of this function, those in their fifties have only 48% (Fig. 4).
In terms of visibility, those in their fifties have lost 36% of the eye’s ability to distinguish dark objects quickly in a space. This means elderly workers require extra caution as concerns disorientation and distinguishing staircases.
