7. Causes of tumbles

Fig. 6 illustrates the proportion of casualties from tumble accidents in the manufacturing industry by type.

About 40% of causes of tumbles are slipping, followed by tripping (32%), and losing one’s balance (about 10%) — this total accounts for close to 80% of all tumbles.

When considering preventative measures for tumbles, it is key to consider the vectors of slipping and tripping.
